Engineers men finish eighth out of 48 competing schools

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Rensselaer men's and women's track & field teams wrap up competition at the 2010 ECAC Championships, this afternoon, and a number of student-athletes turned in strong performances. As a team, the men finished eighth out of 48 schools, while the women placed 38th out of 43.

Leading the way on the men's side was Nathan Marsan (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), who won the 500m dash in 1:07.21. Senior Kyle Barden (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) took second in the 400m dash, with a time of 49.9, while classmate Mike Zampi (Walpole, MA/Walpole) finished fourth in the 1000m run in 2:33.57.

Senior pole-vaulter Justin Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was fifth at an NCAA provisional height of 4.72 meters. Fellow senior Mike Cipollone (Swan Point, MD/McDonough) also took home a fifth-place finish in the high jump at 1.90 meters.

On the women's side, Tracey Knoop (North Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) was sixth in the high jump at a height of 1.58 meters. Danielle Cohen (Cranston, RI/Cranston East) took ninth in the 1000m run in a time of 3:07.31.

Ithaca College won the event on both the men's and women's sides. The Bombers men tallied 52.25 points to edge out both Southern Maine (48) and TCNJ (48). For the women, Ithaca totaled 64.50 points, narrowly topping TCNJ (64), by half a point.
