TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners in men's tennis and two student-athletes have been recognized.
Jarrett Regier was named Performer of the Week, while
Sherman Uyeno garnered Rookie of the Week honors.
Regier, a junior from East Amherst, N.Y., went 4-0 in a week in which he led the Engineers to a pair of wins over Liberty League foes. Playing first flight doubles and singles at RIT, he won 8-3 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively. The next day at Hobart, also at number one in both doubles and singles, he posted wins of 8-6 and 6-1, 6-1.
On the season, Regier is 10-3 overall in singles play, competing in the first flight in all 13 matches. The former Clarence High School standout is 9-2 in doubles, pairing with
Brandon Mazzara (Orange, CA/Villa Park).
A freshman from Brea, Calif., Uyeno played at second doubles and fourth singles in both matches last week. He won 8-4 in doubles and 6-3, 6-0 in singles at RIT. He then had an 8-4 doubles win and a 6-4, 6-3 victory against the Statesmen.
Uyeno has a gone 13-4 overall in singles competition, including an 11-2 mark in the fourth position. He is 1-0 in third flight and 1-2 in second. Through 17 doubles matches, the Brea Olinda High School graduate is 14-3 overall and 11-2 when pairing with sophomore

Men's tennis (15-3) returns to the court this weekend, when it takes part in the Liberty League Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Vassar College. Action begins at 9am both days.
