Ellie McDougall joined the women's soccer staff in the summer of 2018 and has made a positive impact in her time in Troy. As the lead assistant coach, the Granby, Conn., native has been responsible for a variety of tasks, including recruiting, practice planning, game-day coordination, adjustments and implementation, player development, team building and social media.
Rensselaer had 13 wins and five ties in McDougall's first two seasons with the third being paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019 squad earned a spot in the Liberty League Tournament and four student-athletes garnered All-Conference. The 2020 team features 10 first-year players while more than half of the returners (11 of 20) earned Liberty League All-Academic.
Prior to joining the Engineers, McDougall spent two seasons as an assistant at her alma mater, Mercyhurst University, where she was in charge of designing and implementing training sessions for goalkeepers and defenders, as well as the team's strength & conditioning program.
She also has experience working camps and clinics, as well as head coaching experience at the club level. She is a youth premier coach with the Albany Alleycats, a club team in the Capital District. McDougall, who holds a U.S. Soccer Grassroots 11v11 Coaching License, works with the youth academy and is the head coach of the U15 Girls EDP team.
In April of 2020, she was named to the EDP League's "EDP Soccer 30 Promising Young Coaches Under 30" years old.
In 54 career games as a goalkeeper for the Lakers, McDougall went 23-26-3 with a 1.94 goals against average and a .729 save percentage.Â
She graduated in 2016 as a double major in Business Competitive Intelligence and Sports Management. She earned a Master's in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Sports Leadership, also from Mercyhurst.
