Clark was a four-year starter at linebacker, leading the team in tackles in three seasons. He was a captain in his junior and senior seasons,

earning All-ECAC both seasons. A two-time Defensive Most Valuable Player, he was also a Division III All-American as a junior after recording 145 tackles (47 unassisted), four sacks and four interceptions.
Clark, the school's Career Athlete of the Year as a senior, helped the 1981 team to a 6-2-1 record, the best since 1949. “He was by far the best football player we had during his four years at RPI,” said then-head coach Kevin Earl.
A graduate of Taconic High School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Clark was a Dean's List student who was inducted into Olympia. He was also a brother of Theta Chi who graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
