Larry Landon was a standout member of the Class of 1981 from our men's hockey team. Throughout his RPI career, Larry displayed remarkable skill on the ice, accumulating 157 points with 64 goals and 93 assists across 111 games. He eclipsed 30 points in each of his four seasons, consistently contributing to his team's success. His impressive play earned him recognition as one of the most dynamic players of his time at RPI.

After graduation, Larry went on to play professionally for four years, however his contributions to the sport did not stop there, as he would go on to grow the Professional Hockey Players Association for more than three decades. Larry's experience in union relations bloomed as an AHL player representative in 1981, leading to his hiring at the PHPA following his retirement from the pro ranks four years later. After a stint as the union's Deputy Executive Director, Larry was formally elected as Executive Director in 1993, a position he would serve for 33 years until his retirement last summer.

As head of the second-largest sports union, Larry was responsible for negotiating 24 collective bargaining agreements, and also played a key role in establishing licensing and marketing programs, a Career Enhancement Program, Health and Welfare Trusts, Severance Trusts, 401 (k) plans, an Alumni Assistance Program, as well as the creation of concussion and COVID protocols that have shaped the safety and well-being of players across the sport to this day.
