As a freshman, Bill was consistently the number one runner, leading the team to a 6-4 record, and establishing the RPI record on the home course. In the spring, he broke the freshmen records in the mile and two-mile, the latter of which stood for more than 33 years.

In his sophomore season in cross country, he was RPI’s number one in every meet and was an Olympia Athlete of the Week. During the track season, he was the top distance runner, finishing second in the State Meet, which clinched the team title for RPI.

Bill was selected captain of cross country as a junior and again won every dual meet. He set the course record at Alfred in ICACs, running in snow, mud, and wind. He won the State Championship, the first RPI runner to do so since Fred Best in 1954. Bill set the RPI course record, was twice selected as Olympic Athlete of the Week, earned All-ICAC and was named team MVP. In track he broke the mile record as well as the two-mile and then lowered both records in later meets. He won both the mile and the two-mile at ICACs, Olympia Athlete of the Week, was inducted into Olympia, and was listed in “Outstanding College Athletes of America.”

In Pollock’s senior season, he won six dual meets, setting course records in four. He won the ICAC crown again and finished second in the State Meet, leading the team to a third place finish, its best in 15 years.

A graduate of Schutz American School in Alexandria, Eqypt, Pollock was President of Olympia and selected to both Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu.  He earned both a bachelor's and a master's in electrical engineering in 1971.
