TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Jen Schoepflin (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) scored two unassisted goals, including one in overtime, to lead Drew University to a 3-2 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a non-league field hockey game at Harkness Field.
Schoepflin got the game-winner 6:28 into overtime when she collected a rebound of her own shot and scored along the ground to the left of Rensselaer goalkeeper Amanda Lund (Chester, CT/Valley Regional). Drew is now 6-4 overall while RPI falls to 4-5.
Rensselaer got on the board early in the first half when freshman Sara Stylinski (Southington, CT/Southington) redirected a pass from sophomore Michelle Clemente (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) and into the top of the cage at 29:14 of the first half. Sophomore Michelle Roy (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) started the play with a pass on a penalty corner. Freshman Kristiina Baker (Bolton, MA/Nashoba Regional) doubled Rensselaer’s lead when she re-directed a Patty Rodziewicz (Wayside, NJ/Ocean Township) pass into the back of the goal with 8:32 left in the first. Drew came right back to pull back to within one when Schoepflin got a rebound of her own shot and scored with 6:29 remaining in the first half.
The Rangers pulled even with a second half goal by sophomore Whitney Kerns (Doylestown, PA/Germantown Academy), who scored off a scramble with 17:04 left in the stanza.
Freshman Anne Wallin (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) earned the win in goal for Drew, stopping 12 shots, including seven in the first half and three in the second. Lund finished with seven saves for the Red Hawks.
Rensselaer is back in action on Friday afternoon at 3pm against Liberty League foe St. Lawrence at Harkness Field. Drew is next on the field on Wednesday at 2pm at FDU-Florham.
