TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Nola Soloman (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day) scored a goal in each half to lead the Vassar College women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League game at Harkness Field.  Vassar improves to 2-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the league while RPI is 1-6-1 and 0-3-0.

Soloman scored her first goal of the game at 3:49 in the first half.  After dribbling the ball quickly up the field, she scored past Rensselaer goalie Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa).

The Red Hawks answered in the second half when sophomore Kristy Kolb (East Greenbush, NY/Colombia) received the ball in front of the net and put it by senior goalie Heather Jaffe (Belle Mead, NJ/The Hun School).  Vassar went ahead in the final minutes as Solomon scored her second goal past Marandino at 87:16.

Jaffe, who was injured in a collision later in the half, was replaced by Lisa Strumwasser (Malibu, CA/Santa Monica).  They combined for one save, while Marandino stopped three shots in the Red Hawks goal.

Rensselaer returns to action on Friday when it hosts Clarkson at 6pm in a league game.  Vassar plays at home versus St. Lawrence University on Friday at 4pm in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
