TROY, N.Y. – Becca Malinowski (Livonia Center, NY/Livonia) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the first half as Hartwick College defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 1-0 in women’s soccer action.  With the win Hartwick improves to 1-12-0 and Rensselaer is now 2-7-1.

Malinowski dribbled down the field and scored on a high shot past Red Hawks goalie Jackie Gabriele (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) for an unassisted goal at 38:59 of the first half.  The two teams battled through a scoreless second half in which Rensselaer outshot Hartwick 6-0.

Ashley Taylor (Nashua, NH/Nashua) made nine saves in the Hartwick net, while Gabriele made no saves for Rensselaer.

The women’s soccer team is back in action on Friday when it travels to New Paltz, N.Y., to take on SUNY New Paltz in a 4pm matchup.  Hartwick returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., in a 2pm matchup.
