HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior forward Kari Rabatin (Brookhaven, NY/Tabor Academy) scored 2:03 into overtime to give the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team a 3-2 Division I win over Colgate University. Rensselaer improved to 3-0-0 while Colgate falls to 0-1-0 despite outshooting the Engineers 36-15.
Following a scoreless first period, RPI jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of second period goals. Freshman defenseman Melissa Boik (Allen Park, MI/Honeybaked U-19) scored on the power play at 5:39 and classmate Nicole McDonald (Ottawa, ON/Ottawa Raiders) tallied less than two minutes later.
Colgate knotted the game with a pair of third period markers within the first seven minutes but RPI senior netminder Rosina Schiff (St. Louis, MO/Jefferson High) held the Raiders off the board from that point on. Schiff finished with 35 saves, including ten in the first period, 15 in the second and eight in the third. Brook Wheeler stopped 12 shots in the loss.
Rensselaer and Colgate are right back in action against one another on Saturday night at 7pm. That game will be held in Troy, N.Y., at the Houston Field House.
