TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Michelle Clemente (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) rifled home a pass from Lisa Pak (Methuen, MA/Methuen) with under eight minutes left in the second half to give the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team a 1-0 non-league victory over Oswego St. at Harkness Field. 

 

Clemente, a forward, tallied her first goal of the season at 62:32 when she ripped a shot from the center of the circle after taking the feed from Pak.

 

Rensselaer finished with 23 shots, including ten on goal, compared to Oswego St.’s four shots, including two on goal.  Senior Amanda Lund (Chester, CT/Valley Regional) earned the shutout for the Red Hawks while senior Ashley Perkins (Oneida, NY/Oneida) finished with nine saves in the Lakers’ cage, including five in the second half.

 

RPI has now won two games in a row to improve to 5-6 on the season.  The Lakers fall to 1-11.

 

The Red Hawks return to the field on Monday when they host the top ranked team in the nation, Ursinus, at 4pm at Harkness Field.  Oswego St. next plays on Wednesday at home against Elmira.
