Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Kevin Broad (Humboldt, SK) and senior Kevin Croxton (Calgary, AB) scored third period goals to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead and freshman goaltender Mathias Lange (Klangenfurt, Austria) made it stand as he made 29 saves to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over 12th-ranked Boston University at Agganis Arena.  With the win, RPI improves to 2-2-0 while the Terriers fall to 1-1-0.

Boston University jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a goal late in the first period and another early in the second.  The Engineers battled back, however, getting a slap shot marker from senior defenseman Alexander Valentin (Kosice, Slovakia) at 7:46 of the middle stanza.  Junior Oren Eizenman (Toronto, ON), who made a drop pass to Valentin, earned the lone assist on the play.

Broad tied the game just 2:05 into the third period when he took a head-man pass from junior defenseman Ryan Swanson (Woodbury, MN) and broke in alone on John Curry, BU's goaltender.  Broad put the puck over Curry's shoulder and into the back of the net to knot the score at two.  The Engineers took the lead when Croxton fought around a defenseman and put a backhanded shot over the shoulder of Curry at 5:41 of the third period.

Lange was outstanding in net, backstopping the win with 13 saves in the first period, six in the second and ten in the third.  The victory was the 199th in the career RPI head coach Dan Fridgen.  Curry finished with ten saves for BU, which outshot Rensselaer 31-13.

RPI, which snapped a five-game losing streak to the Terriers, makes its regular season Houston Field House debut on Sunday afternoon at 2pm against Army.
