Women's Soccer Defeats Hamilton, 1-0

Troy, N.Y.- Freshman Kerry Reilly (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) scored the game-winning goal fourteen minutes into the second half as the women’s soccer team defeated Hamilton College,1-0 in a Liberty League contest at Harkness Field.  With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 3-8-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the Liberty League.  The Continentals are now 6-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, Rensselaer senior Katie Lavelle (Sayville, NY/Sayville) kicked the ball into a crowd of players in front of the goal.  As the ball rolled to the right of the net past goalie Katie Plummer (Cumberland, RI/Mount Saint Charles Academy), Reilly picked up the loose ball and moved around a Hamilton defender to score at 59:38 of the second half.

“This team really battled today,” said Rensselaer head coach Eric Miller. “They played a great game and got a great win.”

RPI senior goaltender Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) recorded four saves for the win while Plummer also had four saves.

The Red Hawks return to action Saturday against Liberty League foe William Smith in a 2pm match up at Harkness Field.  Hamilton travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday to face Vassar at 2pm.
