TROY, N.Y.- Laura Burnett-Kurie (Durham, NH/Oyster River) scored two goals, one in each half, to lead the William Smith women’s soccer team over Rensselaer, 3-0 at Harkness Field. With the win, the Herons improve to 13-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the Liberty League and clinched the number one seed for the upcoming Liberty League Playoffs. The Red Hawks are 3-9-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the league.
Burnett-Kurie put the Herons up 1-0 after she received a pass from junior Ashley Kent (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and scored past RPI goalie Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) at 14:40 of the first half.
In the second half, senior Steph Gridley (Auburn, NY/Auburn) put the ball past the goalie off a cross from senior Pria Young (Richboro, PA/Council Rock). Burnett-Kurie, who was also credited with an assist on the Herons' second goal, sealed the victory for William Smith at 81:54 when she rolled underneath a diving Marandino to make it 3-0. Gabrielle Allidi (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was given an assist on the goal.
Nikki Dudley (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) had two saves in the Herons goal for the victory. Marandino recorded five saves in goal.
Renssel'aer women’s soccer team returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Rochester for a non-league contest (4pm). William Smith plays at SUNY Cortland on Wednesday at 4pm.
