TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Mike Henzel (Niwot, CO/Niwot) scored just 42 seconds into the first half and the Red Hawks went on to defeat Elmira College, 2-0 in the final regular season for Rensselaer.  With the victory the Red Hawks improve to 8-7-2 overall, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 5-12-0.

Off a corner kick from senior Ed Sellitto (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppague), Henzel put a perfectly timed header into the net for the goal at 44:18.  Senior Stefano Bonissone (Schenectady, NY/Albany Academy) put Rensselaer up 2-0 at the 34:37 mark scoring on a penalty shot past Elmira goalie Jon DePrimo (Elmira, NY/Southside).

In the second half Kris Zanotto (Los Gatos, CA/Saint Francis) scored the equalizer, off a corner kick from Sal Mangano (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) putting the ball into the net for the 3-0 lead.

Rensselaer had 12 shots in the first half and 16 in the second half for a game total of 28 to Elmira’s three shots.

DePrimo made 10 saves in the Soaring Eagles net.  Nick Bochette (Schaghticoke, NY/Hoosic Valley) recorded three saves for RPI.
