POTSDAM, NY - Rensselaer jumped out to a quick lead but could not hold off the homestanding Golden Knights as Clarkson won the Liberty League battle, 2-1, in wet conditions at Clarkson Field.
The Golden Knights improved to 3-7-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the Liberty League while Rensselaer moved to 6-4-1 and 1-2-1 in the league.

The Red Hawks took little time in putting pressure on the Knights by scoring less than two minutes into the contest.  Senior Craig DiDomenico (Commack, NY) tallied his third goal of the season when he made his way through two defenders and shot a low liner past Clarkson goalkeeper David Hennessey (Wading River, NY) on the first shot of the game.  Sophomore Gary Sroka (Liverpool, NY) earned his second of the season on the play.

Behind for the first 78 minutes of the game and trailing in all of the statistical categories, the Golden Knights came through with a pretty goal at the 78:43.  Junior Bryan Oakland (Bow, NH) sent a cross in to the box that classmate Justin Crowley (Central Square, NY) laid out for and headed in just past the outstretched hands of RPI netminder Nick Bochette (Schaghticoke, NY).

The Knights got their second goal just a few minutes later as Mike D'Amico (Fairport, NY) sent another cross into the goalie box.  Several players went up for the ball, but an RPI player made contact an inadvertently sent the ball into the top portion of the net for the go-ahead goal for Clarkson with just 9:05 remaining.  Neither team was able to put many legitimate scoring opportunities together for the remainder of the game.

Hennessey finished with six saves for Clarkson while Rochette finished with two stops. Rensselaer won the battle for shots (11-4) and and corner kicks (6-0).
