BOX SCORE

CANTON, NY - St. Lawrence saw Steve Watson (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) score in the 99th minute to give the Saints a 1-0 overtime victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).  St. Lawrence improves to 4-5-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the Liberty League while RPI is now 6-5-1 and 1-3-1.

Watson got the game-winner when he dribbled the ball from 40 yards out down the right half of the field and created a tough angle for himself for the score.  However, he he drilled the ball past the outstretched hands of RPI goalie Nick Bochette (Schaghticoke, NY/Hoosic Valley) and found the left corner of the net for the win.

The Saints pressured early, with Nick Mangee (Webster, NY/Webster) and Joey Mattina (Missoula, MT/Boulder) taking shots from 5 yards out in the second minute, but Bochette made two clutch saves to keep the game scoreless. In the 23rd minute, Chris Lonegan (North Yarmouth, ME/Greely) created a one-on-one with Bochette, but again, the goalie came up big for the Red Hawks to preserve the 0-0 knot.

Rensselaer’s Mike Henzel (Niwot, CO/Niwot) had a great opportunity to clinch the win for the Red Hawks in the 91st minute when he created a one-on-one with Emilio Coletta (Montreal, PQ/Marianapolis College) but the SLU goalie came up big for the Saints with a save.

Coletta had four saves for the win while Bochette finished with eight.

The Saints next game is at Clarkson on October 15h at 1pm in a Liberty League game while Rensselaer returns to action on October 12 in a non-league game against Keene St. at 7pm at Harkness Field.
