GETTYSBURG, PA - Mike Spadafora (Richboro, PA/Archbishop Wood) and Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal) scored 21 of their 32 combined points in the decisive first half to lead Gettysburg over the Red Hawks, 69-51, in the championship game of the Gettysburg Tip-Off Tournament. 

Spadafora was the game-high scorer for the second straight day, pouring in 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and a 5-of-6 showing from the free-throw line. He was named to the All-Tournament Team while Julius Redd (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder) was selected as the Tip-Off’s most valuable player after averaging 7.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the weekend.

Brady converted 6 of 10 shots to finish with 14 points and Matt Whelan (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield/Worcester Acad. [MA]) also hit double digits for the Bullets (2-0), who captured their eighth Tip-Off Championship,and fifth in the last seven years.


Tom Schneider (Nashua, NH/Bishop Guertin) led the Red Hawks (1-1) with 10 points and nine rebounds, earning a spot on the All-Tournament squad alongside teammate Paul Halas (Sea Grit, NJ/St. Rose). Neumann’s Ronnie Fields and Moravian’s Ed Reid rounded out the All-Tournament picks. Moravian won the consolation game, 85-70.


After surrendering the game’s first six points and failing to score for nearly three and a half minutes, Gettysburg caught fire with a 36-6 run that delivered the championship.  Brady started the Bullets scoring with a 3-point play and a 3-point shot, tying the contest at 6. Spadafora sandwiched two treys around a pair of Brady layups to cap the 16-0 burst and put the hosts ahead to stay.

Schneider made 1-of-2 free throws to pull RPI within nine, but a 3-pointer by Erik Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) touched off a 10-1 burst that made it 26-8 with 6:31 left in the half. Gettysburg led by as many as 24 when Brian Sateja (Morristown, NJ/Delbarton School) made two free throws for a 36-12 advantage.


The Bullets took a 39-20 lead into halftime and and weren’t threatened in the second half, building another 24-point cushion before finishing with a 69-51 victory.


Sateja finished with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Gettysburg freshmen Chris Nevolo (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville) and Corey Dorsey (Frederick, MD/St. John’s at Prospect Hall) each scored their first collegiate points in the win. 


Halas, Neal Wesson (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) and Matt Zepernick (Northport, NY/Northport) scored seven points apiece for the Red Hawks.
