The Engineers suffered their first set back and the University of Maine remains undefeated at Alfond Arena with a 4-1 win over Rensselaer.  Sophomore Danielle Tangredi (London, Ontario) recorded a season-high four-point game with one goal and three assists and junior goaltender Rachel Gettings (Watervliet, NY) kept the Engineers at bay making 25 saves on the afternoon. The Black Bears are now 6-3-2 on the season while Rensselaer falls to 9-1-1. 
Senior captain Cheryl White (Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) put Maine on the board first 3:19 into the game. Tangredi and defenseman Julie Poulin (Beauceville, Quebec) tallied assists on the goal. At the 11:52 mark, freshman Vanessa Vani doubled the Black Bears lead while on the power playl. Tangredi recorded her second assist with junior Kelly Law (Markham, Ontario) added her first of two assists on the afternoon. Maine took the 2-0 advantage into the lockerroom outshooting the Engineers, 10 to 9. Maine went 1-4 on the power play with RPI going 0-3. 
RPI turned up the heat in the second period and dominated the Black Bears. The Engineers persistence paid off with just 54 seconds remaining in the period when sophomore Brooke Thompson (Rochester, NY) beat Gettings to cut the lead in half. Freshman Nicole McDonald (Ottawa, ON) earned an assist on the play. 
Maine responded immediately and quickly built up their two-goal cushion with Tangredi netting her a power play goal with just two seconds remaining in the period. 
In the third period, Maine outshot RPI, 10 to 3, including a goal by junior Brigitte Laflamme (St. Augustin, Quebec) to close out the scoring. 
Gettings earned thew in in goal while Rosina Schiff (St. Louis, MO) stopped 20 of 24 shots for the visiting Engineers. The two teams face off again at 1:00pm at Alfond Arena.
