ORONO, ME - Rensselaer overcame a two-goal deficit, skating to a 2-2 tie against the University of Maine on Sunday at Alfond Arena. With the tie, the Engineers are now 9-1-2 overall while Maine is 6-3-3 overall.

The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the first frame when Cheryl White (Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) scored her team leading ninth goal of the season. The goal was set up when White was able to maneuver her way out of the Maine zone en route to a breakaway.

In the second period, Maine extended their lead to 2-0 off a power play goal from Julie Poulin (Beauceville, Quebec). As Maine was looking to create a chance in the Engineers end, Poulin came off the wing and sniped a shot past netminder Ashley Mayr (Burnaby, BC/BC Breakers).

At the 9:04 mark of the second period Sarah Daniel (Calgary, AB/Bowness Bruins) cut the Maine lead in half, scoring off an assist from Ellen McNamara (Macomb, MI/Little Caesars U 19) past freshman goaltender Genevieve Turgeon (Lac Beauport, Quebec).

RPI's Emily Donowick (West Seneca, NY/Nichols School) brought the Engineers level less than five minutes later with the game-tying goal at the 13:10 mark. The Engineers were throwing shots on net until Melissa Boik (Allen Park, MI/Honeybaked U 19) deflected a shot from the blue line to Donowick, who beat Turgeon to tie the game.

Despite the Engineers' late surge, it was not enough as both teams were forced into overtime.  The game ended with a 2-2 tie with Maine holding the shot advantage 26 to 21.  Turgeon finished with 19 saves while Mayr recorded eight saves in the first period, eight in the second, seven in the third period and one in overtime for a game total of 24 saves for Rensselaer.

Rensselaer returns to action on December 4 when it hosts an exhibition game versus Brock at 2pm.  Maine will open a six game road trip next weekend when they head to North Dakota.
