Rensselaer jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period as senior Julie Welte (Pueblo, CO/Colorado Xtreme) tallied just 22 seconds into the period. Welte deflected a shot by Guillemette into the net for the game's first goal. RPI’s second goal came on a wrap-around from Stewart. After collecting a pass from Guillemette, Stewart skated behind the net and put the puck between the pads of Terriers’ goalie Allyse Wilcox (Grand Blanc, MI/Honeybaked) at 13:44 of the period. Melissa Boik (Allen Park, MI/Honeybaked U 19) earned the second assist on the goal.
The Engineers continued to charge at the BU net in the second period as Stewart tallied her second goal of the game, unassisted, at 4:38 for a 3-0 lead. Less than four minutes later sophomore Kelly Barbera (Nesconset, NY/Gunnery School) recorded her first goal of the season when she ripped a one-timer into the Terriers net to put RPI up 4-0 heading into the second intermission. Guillemette and Stewart earned the assists on the goal.
The Terriers battled back in the third period, tallying three goals in four minutes. Maeghan Ouimet (Portsmouth, NH/Hotchkiss) took a shot at the net, the puck deflected off RPI goalie Emily Ford (Plymouth, MA/Tabor Academy) and trickled into the net to make the score 4-1. BU then scored at the 17:43 mark to pull within two goals and freshman Genevieve Laing (Rochester, NY/Buffalo Bisons) made the score 4-3 with less than a minute to play. Taking advantage of a 5-on-4 power-play opportunity, the Terriers pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker. Laing caught a pass from Gina Kearns (Norwood, PA/Princeton) and scored at 19:44. Sarah Daniel (Calgary, AB/Bowness Bruins) added an empty-net goal with just three seconds on the clock to seal the victory for the Engineers.
