SCHENECTADY, NY-- Sophomore Sal Mangano (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) led RPI with two goals which resulted in a 5-0 win over Mount Saint Mary in the second game of the 2005 Union Classic Men's Soccer Tournament.
The first goal of the game was scored by freshman Mike Henzel (Niwok, CO/Niwok) only 10:38 into the play time. Followed by a goal by Sal Mangano only twenty minutes later at 36:04. The scored at the half was 2-0, RPI winning. Only four minutes into the second half, with game time running at 49:26, senior Craig DiDomenico (Commack, NY/Commack) scored the third goal of the game. The two last goals, one at 70:40 by Mangano and 87:34 by Sophomore Louis Martinelli (Ozone park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) finished off the game with a 5-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary.
RPI controlled the ball almost the entire game with a total of 29 shots compared to Mount Saint Mary's one single shot. Freshman goalie of Mount Saint Mary, Jack Benenati (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) had a total of 11 saves in the 90 minutes of game time. Both goalies of RPI, John Thibdeau (Altamont, NY/Bethlehem) and Mike Prince (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) had a pretty slow game with no saves each.
Mount Saint Mary will face the Union Dutchmen on Sunday at 12 noon followed by RPI facing SUNY New Paltz at 2:30 p.m.
