HOBOKEN, NJ (September 10, 2005) The Stevens Institute of Technology
women's soccer team used a five-goal second half to cruise to a 6-0
victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Saturday afternoon in the
opening game of the Stevens Engineering Cup at DeBaun Field. The Ducks
improve to 2-1-0 on the season, while the Red Hawks fall to 0-2-1.
Stevens got on the board in the 24th minute as junior Siena York-Carr
(Davis, CA) and senior Coralynn Jones (Stevensville, MT) found junior
Heather Dean (Renton, WA) inside the box. Dean collected the ball and
lobbed it over the outstretched arms of the goalie for the score from
10 yards out.
Stevens increased its lead in the 50th minute as freshman Kristen Wolf
(Matawan, NJ) sent a cross to freshman Salme Cook (Fairfax, VA), who

sliced through the defense and rocketed a hard, low shot that landed in
the back of the net in the 70th minute.
Freshman Meghan Tennyson (Folsom, LA) struck twice for the Ducks in a
two-minute span to open a 5-0 lead on the Red Hawks late. Tennyson's
first score came in the 75th minute when Stevens goalie Erica
Mdttveit's (Jackson, NJ) clear led the midfielder down the field passed
the defense. Tennyson drew the keeper out then lobbed a shot over her
head that bounced in the open goal. A little less than two minutes
later, Tennyson notched her second goal of the game, collecting the
ball off a deflection and sending it past the keeper.
With less than three minutes remaining in the contest, Stevens added
its sixth and final goal, as Cook and freshman Audra Clark (Dallas, TX)
hooked up on a corner kick with Clark on the receiving end of the goal,
heading in the shot from close range.
The Ducks outshot RPI, 16-5, holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Midttveit made four saves for the Ducks, including a diving save on
Sherika Wynter's hard shot early in the second half. Gabriele
registered seven stops for RPI.
