NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—Freshman Tim Wisner (Middleburgh, NY/Middleburgh) led RPI with two goals which resulted in a 5-0 win over Mass. College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference game this afternoon.
The first goal of the game was scored by sophomore Gary Sroka (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) at 23:26 into the play time. Less than a minute later Wisner scored his first goal of the game at 24:41, Ed Sellitto assisted on the play. Rensselaer would take its 2-0 lead into the second half.
Sophomore Sal Mangano (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) notched the third goal of the game unassisted at 56:23. The two last goals, Wisner’s second of the game at 70:19, assisted by Joe Johnson (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay), and at 81:22 by freshman Max Molleo (Gray, ME/Cheverus) finished off the game with a 5-0 victory.
RPI controlled the ball almost the entire game with a total of 21 shots compared to Mass College's five shots. Mass. College of Liberal Arts senior goalie Mike Giovine (Lee, MA/Lee) had a total of six saves in the 90 minutes of game time. RPI goalie, John Thibdeau (Altamont, NY/Bethlehem) had four saves in the contest.
Rensselaer's men’s soccer team is back in action on September 23, as they open Liberty League play against Union at 4pm at Harkness Field. Mass. College of Liberal Arts plays September 20 at Springfield College at 7pm.
