SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The No. 12 Union College women’s soccer team used a five-goal first half and went on to an 8-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).  The Dutchwomen got a pair of goals from both Marissa Van Woeart and Cassandra Mariani to improve to 1-0-0 in the Liberty League and 6-0-1 overall.  Freshman Sarah Hinz (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock) broke up the shutout bid at 65:25 of the second half.  Hinz received the ball from teammate Kristy Kolb (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) just past midfield and dribbled down the right side.  Fighting past three defenders, she tucked the ball inside the post past goalie Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk).

Gawronski and Kaitlin Graham (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) had no saves for the Dutchwomen.  Senior Jackie Gabriele (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) made five saves, while Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) stopped one shot in the Red Hawks goal.

Rensselaer travels to Skidmore College on Saturday at 2pm.  Union continues its homestand tomorrow when it hosts Vassar at 2pm also.
