Saratoga Springs, NY—The Skidmore College women’s soccer team won its eighth straight game, defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 2-1, in a Liberty League match-up on Saturday afternoon.

Anna Cerio (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) scored the Thoroughbred’s first goal at 34:21 off a pass from Morgan Cadwell (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) to give Skidmore (8-1-0, 2-0 Liberty) a 1-0 lead at the half.

Minutes into the second half Cadwell assisted Rachael Sushner (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) on a goal to increase the lead to 2-0 at 49:26.  Rensselaer (1-5-1, 0-2 Liberty) cut the deficit to 2-1 at 61:29 when freshman Kerry Rielly (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) scored, assisted by Katie Lavelle (Sayville, NY/Sayville).

Skidmore held on for the 2-1 victory, despite several fine scoring attempts by Rensselaer in the final minutes. Liza Mills (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) had two saves in net for the Thoroughbreds.  The Red Hawks' Jackie Gabriele (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) also recorded two saves.
