TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Catherine Twardy (Sherborn, MA/Dover-Sherborn Regional) scored a second half goal off a scramble and Ellie Pomerantz (Hartsdale, NY/The Hackley School) stopped all nine shots she faced to lead Vassar College to 1-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League field hockey game at Harkness Field.

With the win, the Brewers improve to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the league while the Red Hawks are now 3-4 and 0-3.

Vassar tallied the game’s only goal when junior Lindsay Guest (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) collected the ball during a scramble in front of the goal and fed it to Twardy, who scored into the right side of the cage at the 56:04 mark.  Rensselaer had several good opportunities later in the half but could not beat Pomerantz for the equalizer.

A junior, Pomerantz finished with five saves in the first half and four in the second for a total of nine.  Senior Amanda Lund (Chester, CT/Valley Regional) made two saves for RPI.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Drew University in a non-league game beginning at 1pm.  Vassar plays next on October 7 against league foe Hamilton.
