STORRS, Conn. - Senior goaltender Rosina Schiff stopped 23 shots and freshman defenseman Melanie Guillemette had a goal and an assist to lead the Rensselaer women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over the University of Connecticut. With the win RPI improves to 12-1-2. The Huskies fall to 8-14-0.
Guillemette opened the scoring with an unassisted goal just 51 seconds into the game. She then helped the Engineers double their lead just under nine minutes later when she picked up the lone assist of a Jamie-Lynn Stewart goal. UConn pulled to within one goal with only 29 seconds left in the opening stanza but could not get the equalizer.
Schiff was outstanding, stopping seven shots in the first period, 11 in the second and five in the third. She improves her personal record to 5-1-1. Kaitlyn Shain stopped 13 shots in the loss for UConn.
