Three players reach double figures in 63-54 win over Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. - Junior guard Destany Eagles (Conway, SC/Carolina Forest) recorded a season-high 15 points and two other players reached double figures as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team defeated Hamilton, 63-54, in the Liberty League season opener.  With the victory the Red Hawks improve its overall record to 7-3 with a 1-0 Liberty League mark.   The Continentals fall to 3-7 overall and are now 0-1 in the league.

Eagles, on 5-of-11 shooting, also recorded five rebounds (1 offensive), four assists and two steals in 30 minutes.  Junior forward Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) added 12 points and 11 rebounds (2 offensive) with two blocks and two steals in 33 minutes.  Sophomore Tory Lyons (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds on the night.

Hamilton was led by sophomore forward Pumla Sathula (Soweto, S. Africa /Saint Annes-Belfield School) who tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds with two assists and four steals in 30 minutes and freshman Sydney Fasulo (Lancaster, PA /Lancaster Country Day School) who also scored 12 points in the game.

The Red Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon against William Smith at 2pm.  Hamilton also returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Vassar (2pm).
