Men's Hockey Falls to Yale, 5-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn., - Yale University scored in each period and three players registered multiple-points as the Bulldogs downed Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 5-0 in ECACHL action.  With the victory, Yale is now 7-10-2 overall, 6-6-1 in league play.  The Engineers are now 11-11-3 overall, with a 5-4-3 ECACHL mark.

Freshman Matt Nelson (Westwood, MA/Nobel & Greenough School) got the action started at the 10:26 mark of the first period.  Nelson collected a pass from sophomore Will Engasser (Chanhassen, MN/The Blake School), putting the puck in the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs kept the pace going into the second period when senior Joe Zappata (Medford, MA/Deerfield Academy) scored his sixth goal of the season at the 5:34 mark.  Less than four minutes later, Jeff Hristovski, on the power-play, corralled the puck off a pass from Matthew Craig (Brampton, ON/Bramalea) shooting it past RPI goalie Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria/New York Apple Core) for the 3-0 lead.  Junior Brad Mills (Olds, AB/Fort McMurrey) was credited with the secondary assist.

Engasser put Yale up 4-0 mid-way through the third period when he flicked a wrist shot at the Engineers net.  Lange was unable to drop down in time to cover the puck as it slid underneath his pads for the goal.  Mills would seal the victory with less than two minutes remaining in the contest, scoring a power-play marker at 18:07, for the final 5-0 margin.

Freshman goaltender Alec Richards (Robbinsdale, MN/Breck School) made 29 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.  Lange finished with 27 saves in the loss for Rensselaer.

The Engineers are back in action on Friday and Saturday when it travels to Harvard and Dartmouth.  Both games are scheduled for 7pm.  Yale is also in action next weekend when it heads to ECACHL rivals Colgate (7pm) and Cornell (7pm).
