Box Score

TROY, N.Y. – Dartmouth College got three goals in the third period and sophomore Mike Devine (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Lightning) stopped 33 of 34 shots to down Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 4-1 in an ECACHL Division I men’s hockey contest at the Houston Field House. Dartmouth improves to 7-8-0 overall and 6-5-0 in the league. RPI falls to 8-9-3 and 2-2-3.

The Big Green jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 19 seconds into the contest when sophomore forward J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, MN/The Blake School) deflected a Sean Offers (St. Albert, AB/Drayton Valley Thunder) shot into the back of the net for a power play goal. Wyman earned his fifth goal of the season while standing in the slot, where he tipped Offers’ right point shot past Rensselaer netminder Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria/New York Apple Core). Mike Ouellette (Kamploops, BC/Merritt Centennials) earned the secondary helper. The Engineers tied the score with a power play goal of their own when sophomore Andrew Lord (West Vancouver, BC/Vernon Vipers) took a pass from junior Oren Eizenman (Toronto, ON/Wexford Raiders) on an odd-man rush and snapped off a one-timer. Senior Kevin Croxton also assisted on the goal.

The second period was deadlocked with no scoring as the Engineers had eight shots on goal while Dartmouth had 13.

The third period started out evenly as well, but the Big Green broke the deadlock with 7:51 remaining. Ouellette fed a centering pass across the crease, where David Jones (North Vancouver, BC/Coquitlam Express) settled it and roofed it over Lange. Ben Lovejoy (Orford, NH/Boston College) was credited with the secondary assist.

Dartmouth added their third and fourth goals for the final margin later in the period. Dan Shribman (Swampscott, MA/Deerfield Academy) managed to deflect a puck past Lange as Jarrett Sampson (Prince Albert, SK/South Surrey Eagles) and Rob Pritchard (Burnaby, BC/Prince George Spruce Kings) picked up assists. Lovejoy scored Dartmouth’s fourth goal as he found the puck in front of the net and poked it above a fallen Lange. Eric Przepiorka (Grosse Pointe, MI/Sioux Falls Stampede) and Nick Johnson (Calgary, AB/St. Albert Saints)) were credited with the assists.

Devine had 15 saves in the first period, eight in the second and 10 in the third to improve to 6-4-0. Lange finished with 27 saves, including seven in the first period, 13 in the second and seven in the third.

Rensselaer returns to action tomorrow night when it hosts Harvard in an ECACHL game at Houston Field House (7pm). Dartmouth travels crosstown to take on Union tomorrow night at 7pm.
