TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s basketball team got double digit scoring from five players to defeat Middlebury College, 64-50, in non-conference action at Robison Gym. With the victory the Red Hawks improve to 6-3 overall. The Panthers are now 9-2.
Junior guard Destany Eagles (Conway, SC/Carolina Forest) led all scorers with 13 points including seven in the first half. She also added four rebounds, an assist and five steals in 26 minutes. Junior captain Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) posted her third double-double of the season, recording a game-high 22 rebounds (10 offensive) with 12 points in 30 minutes. Freshman forward Kristin Danbury (Grafton, NY/Catholic Central) scored a season-high 11 points while guard Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda) posted 10 points and five rebounds. Caitlyn Charest (Swansea, MA/LaSalle Academy) also contributed 10 points.
Middlebury was led by sophomore guard Katie Fisher (Oakland, CA/College Prep School), who scored 12 points with three rebounds and two assists. Forward Alanna Young (Concord, NH/Concord), also a sophomore, chipped in with 14 rebounds (5 offensive) and eight points for the Panthers.
The Red Hawks open Liberty League play on Friday, traveling to Hamilton for a 6pm matchup. Middlebury returns to the court on Tuesday to host Colby-Sawyer at 5:30pm.
