Baker Leads Field Hockey to Overtime Win

Sophomore scores twice, assists on another in 3-2 win

UTICA, N.Y. - Sophomore Kristiina Baker (Bolton, MA/Nashoba Regional) scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and assisted on another to lead the Rensselaer field hockey team to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Utica in a non-league game.  Baker, a forward, scored two unassisted goals for RPI, which trailed 2-0 in the second half.

With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 7-6.  They have won five of their last seven games.  Utica falls to 8-4.

The homestanding Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead at 28:10 and held Rensselaer off the scoreboard until Baker notched a goal off a cross at 51:10.  She then set up classmate Sara Stylinski (Southington, CT/Southington) for a goal off a cross 8:17 later to tie the score.  Baker gave RPI the win on a rebound goal in overtime.

Senior Jen O'Neil (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) backstopped RPI's victory, making nine saves.  Amanda McDonnell stopped four shots in defeat.
