Junior Aaron Gundle (Portland, OR/Lincoln) tallied with less than three minutes remaining in the first half and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s soccer team held on to defeat Clarkson, 1-0, in Liberty League men’s soccer action. With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 5-10-0 and are now 1-5-0 in the league. The Golden Knights fall to 1-11-0 on the season with an 0-6-0 Liberty League mark.
Gundle tallied late in the half on a header from Matt Hill (Hampton Falls, NH/Winnacunnet). Hill sent the ball across from the right side to Gundle, who sent the ball past Golden Knights goalie Mike St. Croix (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart).
Despite several chances in the second half, Clarkson was unable to get a shot past Rensselaer goalie Jeffery Krywanczyk (Chazy, NY/Chazy Central Rural), who finished with four saves in the win for the Red Hawks.
St. Croix posted ten saves in the loss for Clarkson.
Rensselaer returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts St. Lawrence in the final Liberty League game of the season at Harkness Field (2pm). Clarkson closes out its league schedule tomorrow at Vassar (4pm).
