Potsdam, N.Y. - Heavy rain in pre-game turned to accumulating snow as Rensselaer battled to a 0-0 tie with Clarkson in a 70-minute game at SUNY Potsdam’s Turf Field.
The Red Hawks pushed their record to 5-7-2 overall and 0-5-1 in the league while the Golden Knights moved to 5-8-2 and 0-5-1 in the Liberty League. Friday’s game was initially scheduled to be played at Clarkson Field, but the heavy rains throughout the week made the field muddy and unplayable, forcing the move to Potsdam’s turf facility.
Quality scoring opportunities were rare as any time a team gained an advantage, the inches of snow on the turf intervened, slowing down the play. Twenty-five minutes into the second half, the officials were satisfied that the game should not continue and the game was officially announced as a scoreless tie through 70 minutes.
Rensselaer outshot Clarkson 8-4, including a 7-1 advantage in the first half, but only one of those opportunities had much of a chance of going in. Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) stopped four shots for Clarkson to earn her fourth shutout of the season while Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY) made two saves in her fifth shutout of the campaign.
