Philatre and Wesson combine for 47 points and 20 rebounds

TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Ricky Philatre (Randolph, MA/Randolph) scored 26 points and grabbed ten rebounds, including eight offensive, and senior Neal Wesson (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) added 21 points and ten caroms to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s basketball team to an 83-71 victory over Mount Saint Mary in a non-league game at Robison Gym.
 
Rensselaer, which broke open a game that was tied at halftime (34-34) by shooting 55.6% in the second half, improves to 2-1. The visiting Blue Knights, who made 11 three-pointers, fall to 1-2.

Philatre, a forward, made 12-of-21 shots, including 9-of-13 in the second half, to lead the Red Hawks. He also had four blocks, an assist, and a steal in 31 minutes of action. Wesson, a guard who had 10 points and seven rebounds in the first half, added a game-high five assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.

Michael Visker (Essex, VT/Essex Junction), a senior forward, chipped in with 17 points, including three three-pointers, for Rensselaer.

Mount Saint Mary was led by senior guard Mike Hoyt (Florida, NY/S.S. Seward Institute), who scored a game-high 30 points, including five three-pointers. He also made 13 free throws, collected five steals, and added three assists. David Lonnay (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) had 16 points.

Rensselaer returns to action on Sunday afternoon for a non-league game at Williams College (2pm). Mount Saint Mary is back on the court on Tuesday against Bard College in the Hudson Valley Shootout at Vassar College. Tipoff is 6pm.
