Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Senior Meghan Stetson and sophomore Mika Peterman each scored 18 points to lead Williams to a 73-54 victory over Rensselaer at Chandler Gymnasium.  The Ephs, who posted a strong second half to pull away for the win, improve to 4-2 on the season.  The Red Hawks fell to 0-2 overall.

Williams held a close three-point lead first half (29-26), but stormed out to a strong start in the second frame, increasing their lead to 41-28 in the first six minutes. Peterman got hot in the early run and wound up scoring 13 of her 18 points over the final 20 minutes. She went 5 of 7 from the floor in the second half. As a team, the Ephs shot 48.4 (15 for 31) from the floor.

The Red Hawks cut the deficit to four mid-way through the half, but Eph senior Maggie Miller, who finished with 10 points, hit a clutch jumper to make it a 57-51 lead for the Ephs and that was as close as RPI would get.

Sophomore Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA) led the visitors with a game-high 20 points, while senior Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY) threw in 12 points and eight rebounds. The Red Hawks were done in by 28 turnovers and shot just 29.4 percent (10 of 34) from the floor in the second half.

Williams was able to rebound RPI by a 23-16 margin in the second half and a 39-34 margin in the game. In addition to her 18 points, 11 of which came in the first half, Stetson had seven rebounds and two steals.

Miller added seven rebounds and three blocks to her 10-point total before fouling out with 2:30 remaning in the contest. Senior Meghan O’Malley added nine points and six rebounds and Beth Lorge contributed six points.

Williams trailed the Red Hawks 24-19 late in the first half thanks in part to 10 points from Coleman and six each from Baranowski and sophomore Caitlyn Charest (Swansea, MA). But the Ephs closed the half on a 10-2 run. Peterman nailed a key three-pointer off a pass from O’Malley with 1:56 to go that gave Williams a 26-24 lead, and Stetson capped the run with another trey, coming with 17 seconds left, to make it 29-26 at the break.

The Ephs return to the court on Thursday for a 7pm contest at Union.  Rensselaer returns to action on Saturday and Sunday at Bowdoin and WPI, respectively.  Both games are scheduled for a 2pm start.
