TROY, N.Y. – Robert Morris tallied three goals in the third period enroute to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in non-conference women’s hockey action at the Houston Field House. With the victory, the Colonials improve to 4-5-1 on the season. The Engineers fall to 2-9-0 overall.

Down 3-2 in the third period, Robert Morris tied the game up just six minutes into the frame on a goal by sophomore Alissa Dorman (Madison, WI/Madison Capitals). Freshman Jordan Riley (Hamilton, ON/Stoney Creek Sabres) gave the Colonials a 4-3 advantage mid-way through the stanza on an unassisted marker and classmate Chelsea Walkland (Pittsford, NY/Rochester Edge) sealed the victory with an empty net goal at 19:28.

The Engineers got on the scoreboard in the first period on a power play goal from sophomore Brooke Thompson (Rochester, NY/Rochester Edge). Corralling a pass from freshman Whitney Naslund (Bloomington, MN/Bloomington Jefferson), Thompson skated around the front of the net, lifting the puck over the left shoulder of Colonials’ goalie Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Valley, OH/Ohio Flames) at 15:31. Freshman Allysen Weidner (Wichita, KS/Shattuck St. Mary’s) was also credited with an assist.

Robert Morris answered less than four minutes later, tying the game 1-1 on a tally by sophomore Morgan Beikirch (Livonia, NY/Buffalo Bison) at 18:50. Beikirch found the puck off a rebound shot by classmate Kristen Miles (London, ON/London Devilettes) and put it past the reach of Rensselaer netminder Emily Ford (Plymouth, MA/Tabor Academy).

Rensselaer gained a two-goal advantage in the second frame with goals less than a minute apart early in the period. Sophomore Melissa Boik (Allen Park, MI/Honeybaked U-19) got things started at 5:43 when she sent a bullet shot over the shoulder of McLaughlin off a pass from freshman Laura Gersten (Queensbury, NY/Troy-Albany Ice Cats). Senior Sarah Daniel (Calgary, AB/Bowness Bruins) would add the Engineers’ third goal at the 6:32 mark off a pass from the corner by freshman Rossli Chace (Hampton Falls, NH/Governor Dummer Academy).

Miles would tally the Colonials second goal to make it a 3-2, Rensselaer advantage heading into the third period.

McLaughlin posted 29 saves in the win for Robert Morris while Ford stopped 16 shots in the loss for RPI.

Rensselaer returns to action on Friday and Saturday at ECACHL rivals Quinnipiac (7pm) and Princeton (4pm), respectively. Robert Morris travels to Clarkson for a two-game set with the Golden Knights on Friday (3pm) and Saturday (1pm).
