Men's Basketball Falls to Conn. College, 59-55

TROY, N.Y. – Connecticut College used a 7-0 run late in the second half to take a six-point lead and the Camels held off Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 59-55, in a non-league men’s basketball game at Robison Gym. The visitors improve to 4-2 while RPI falls to 4-2.

Conn. College opened the second half by scoring the first seven points to turn a halftime tie (28-28) into a 35-28 lead. Rensselaer battled back to take two separate one-point leads in what turned out to be a back-and-forth second half. The homestanding Red Hawks had a chance to tie the game or take the lead with under a minute remaining but a steal and two free throws by Junior guard Christian Mosley (Virginia Beach, VA/Hebron Academy) sealed the win for Conn.

Three players reached double digits in points for the Camels, who shot 55% (11 for 20) from three-point range. Mosley (Virginia Beach, VA/Hebron Academy) led the way with 13 points, followed by junior forward Charles Stone (Hackensack, NJ/Hotchkiss School) and freshman forward Steve Weingarten (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville), who had 10 points apiece. Stone added team-bests of six rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

For Rensselaer, senior guard Neal Wesson (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) led all scorers with 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting. He also had five rebounds, three assists, a block, and a game-high four steals. Junior forward Sam Simmons (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) added 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

RPI is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Morrisville State in a non-league game at 8pm. Conn. College hosts Wheaton College on Tuesday at 7pm.
