Women's Basketball Bested by #1 Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Every player on the top-ranked Bowdoin College women’s basketball team scored in an 86-36 victory over Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears (6-0), ranked first in the latest D3Hoops.com national poll, extend their NCAA-best home-court winning streak to 73 games, while Rensselaer (0-3) drops its third straight to start the season.

RPI scored the first basket of the game, a put-back by Destany Ealges, but that was as close as the Red Hawks would get. Bowdoin ripped off a 26-4 run over the next seven minutes, taking an insurmountable lead with a stellar first-half performance. The Polar Bears hit four of their first five three-point attempts in the run, as Alexa Kaubris, Julia Loonin, Jill Anelauskas and Marisa Berne all connected from long-range.

Bowdoin forced 15 first-half turnovers and assisted on 13 of their 16 field goals in the opening period to take a 44-17 lead at intermission.

Eileen Flaherty led all scorers with 22 points, while Anelauskas collected 12 points and six rebounds. The Polar Bears got 42 points from their bench, led by Sabrina Cote (nine points), Marisa Berne (nine points) and Caitlin Hynes (eight points). Point guard Katie Cummings earned six assists against no turnovers for Bowdoin.

Rensselaer was led by seven points from #Caitlyn Charest,# six points from Eagles and a five-points, six-board effort from Kristi Baranowski.

The Red Hawks will travel to play in Worcester, Massachusetts tomorrow against WPI. Bowdoin returns to action next Thursday at Colby-Sawyer.
