Red Hawks down UMaine-Fort Kent for third straight victory

TROY, N.Y. – Fourteen different players scored, including three who reached double figures, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s basketball team defeated the University of Maine-Fort Kent, 78-28, in a non-league game at Robison Gym.

With the win Rensselaer improves to 3-3, including victories in its last three contests. UMaine-Fort Kent falls to 8-2 on the season.

Sophomore forward Elizabeth Barker (Springfield, MA/Cathedral) and junior guard Missy Jackman (Danvers, MA/Danvers) both had a game-high 14 points while junior forward Tory Lyons (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) added ten points to lead RPI. Barker, who made 6 of 8 shots, also had a game-high nine rebounds and two assists. Jackman, who was 5 of 8 shooting, added an assist and five steals for the Red Hawks, who held a 45-13 advantage at halftime.

Senior guard Dana Lemon (Richmond, VA/James River) led the visiting Bengals with ten points. Classmate Traci Weatherhead (Limestone, ME/Limestone), a forward, added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Rensselaer, which had 17 steals, is idle until playing in the Surf City Classic in San Diego at the end of December. UMaine-Fort Kent plays at Williams College on Sunday at noon.
