TROY, N.Y. – Junior forward Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and freshman guard Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda) recorded 18 points apiece to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s basketball team to a 82-72 Liberty League victory over visiting Hamilton.

With the victory the Red Hawks improve to 12-8 overall with a 6-5 league mark. The Continentals fall to 8-13 overall and 5-6 in the Liberty League.

Rensselaer was red hot in the first half, jumping out to a 22-point lead (40-18) late and they held an 18-point advantage heading into the break. Coleman led all scorers in the first half, tallying 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

In the second half, the Red Hawks continued to extend its lead. Led by Baranowski, who shot 8-of-11 in the game, Rensselaer went up as many as 25-points again late in the game.

Baranowski also added six rebounds (1 offensive) with one block and one steal. Coleman chipped in six rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting, with three assists and one steal in 20 minutes. Junior guard Destany Eagles (Conway, SC/Carolina Forest) recorded 12 points, three assists, two blocks and two steals in the victory.

The Continentals were led offensively by freshman center Sydney Fasulo (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Country Day School), who tallied 24 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-16 shooting. She also added an assist, one block and two steals. Senior guard Erin Daugherty (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) scored 14 points with eight rebounds, while freshman guard Laura Wetmore (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) added 13 points.

Rensselaer returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Vassar for a 6pm game against the Brewers. Hamilton is also back on Tuesday when it heads to William Smith for a 7pm match-up against the Herons.
