Box Score
MILFORD, Conn. – Freshmen Emily Donowick (West Seneca, NY/Nichols School) and Melanie Guillemette (North Bay, ON/Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) both scored in the first period to lead the Rensselaer women’s hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Sacred Heart. With the win the Engineers snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 14-5-2 on the season. The Pioneers fall to 9-10-3 overall.
RPI, which outshot Sacred Heart, 49-16, was backstopped by freshman Emily Ford (Plymouth, MA/Tabor Academy), who made 16 saves to improve her personal record to 4-0-0. Pioneers' goaltender Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK/Groton School) finished with 47 saves.
Donowick put Rensselaer on the board at the 11:02 mark of the first period with her ninth goal of the season. Boulay stopped a shot by freshman Jaime Jacquard-Sowa (North Vancouver, BC/BC Breakers) but was unable to handle the rebound, which slid out to junior captain Sarah Daniel (Calgary, AB/Bowness Bruins). Daniel fed the puck to Donowick in the slot and she flipped a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net for the goal.
The Engineers went up 2-0 on a shorthanded effort by Guillemette with 4:35 left in the opening period. Clearing the puck while on the penalty kill, Guillemette fired a shot down the ice from her own red line. Boulay tried to scoop the it up but it went underneath her glove and into the net.
The two teams meet again on Saturday afternoon at 3pm at the Milford Ice Pavilion in the finale of the two-game series.
