ST. LEO, Fla. - Senior Charles Yarnold (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) struck out nine while allowing only four earned runs and one walk in pitching a complete game but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team fell to Transylvania, 8-7. Rensselaer is now 0-3 while Transylvania improves to 7-4.

Transy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning before RPI got two on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Transylvania scored the game’s next six runs, however, and held a commanding 7-2 lead after three-and-a-half innings. The two teams traded one run apiece over the next two innings before Rensselaer scored twice in the seventh and twice in the eighth for the final margin.

Offensively for the Red Hawks, senior second baseman Rich Mundy (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) was 3 for 3 with a double, a run and a run batted in. Senior leftfielder Michael Passante (Highland, NY/Highland) also had two hits and a run and sophomore third baseman Shane Griffin had two hits, a run and an RBI.
