FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior Stephanie Vanek (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) went 3 for 3 with four runs and two runs batted in at the plate and she pitched four innings without allowing a run to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team to wins over Wilmington, 11-3, and Framingham St., 3-1.

Vanek collected two hits, including a triple, three runs and two RBI while striking out four in four innings of the victory over Wilmington. She allowed just two hits and two walks to improve to 1-0. Freshman shortstop Sara Finkbeiner (Napanoch, NY/Ellenville) added two hits, two runs and an RBI while junior third baseman Katherine Valenta (LaGrange, IL/Lyons Township) had two hits, including a double, and two runs in the game, which was ended after five innings.

In the second game, the Red Hawks scored two runs in the first inning and one in the sixth to hold off Framingham St. Senior Amy Huling (Vienna, VA/Holton-Arms) allowed just three hits and one run with seven strikeouts in six innings from the circle to improve to 2-0. Freshman Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) earned the save, allowing one walk with three strikeouts in the final inning.

Freshman first baseman Beth Gargon (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) had two hits, a run and an RBI while sophomore third baseman Courtney Sweeney (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) also had two hits for the Red Hawks.
