WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Senior Kate Phillips (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) tallied five goals and added an assist but it wasn’t enough as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s lacrosse team fell to FDU-Florham, 14-11, in a non-league game. With the win, the Devils improve to 3-0. The Red Hawks fall to 1-1.
Rensselaer jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 30 seconds into the first half on a goal by sophomore Natalie White (Guilford, CT/Guilford) but the Devils tallied the next four in a row for a 4-1 lead late in the first half. RPI fought back with goals from freshman Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Phillips to pull within a goal, 4-3, at halftime.
In the second half, FDU-Florham scored three goals in the first four minutes to extend its lead to 7-3 on their way to victory. Phillips scored four second half goals for the Red Hawks, including a late tally with just 21 seconds left on the clock, but RPI was unable to complete the comeback.
