LoGiudice tallied two goals and added three assists in the loss

TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) tallied three goals and added two assists to lead 11th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to a narrow 11-10 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in men’s lacrosse action this afternoon. With the victory the Ducks improve to 4-2 overall. The Red Hawks are now 3-4 on the season.

The Red Hawks trailed 3-2 after the first quarter, but got four goals from four different players in the second period to take a 6-4 lead into halftime. RPI was led by an aggressive effort from senior midfielder Adam LoGiudice (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), who scored an unassisted marker with just eight seconds left in the quarter, and added two assists.

In the second half, Rensselaer held a slim 7-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. Senior Chris Sherman (Newark, DE/St. Marks) put the home team up by two (8-6) early in the fourth quarter, but the visitors charged ahead. The Ducks erupted for five goals in the final stanza, including three tallies in less than two minutes halfway through the period, to take the lead.

The Red Hawks would attempt the comeback late in the frame, when sophomore Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) found the back of the net, off a pass from LoGiudice, with 21 seconds remaining to pull RPI within a goal (11-10). Rensselaer held possession of the ball as time expired off the clock, but were unable to take a shot.

Junior Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, CT/Immaculate) picked up the win for the Ducks, making seven saves in relief of sophomore Corey Vaillancourt (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton), who stopped four shots to start the game. Junior Ryan Michels (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) made 10 saves in the loss for the Red Hawks.

In addition to Donly, the Ducks got two goals and two assists from sophomore J. R. Oreskovich (La Costa, CA/La Costa Canyon). Junior Mark Bielicky (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) added two goals and an assist, while junior Matt Althauser (Bellevue, WA/Bellevue Senior) and freshman Matt Keating (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) scored a goal each.

Seven different Red Hawks tallied points in the game, led by LoGiudice, who finished with two goals and three assists. Sherman tallied two goals and two assists, while sophomore Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) also had two goals.
