Softball Now 15-1 With Doubleheader Sweep

CASTLETON, Vt. - Rensselaer's pitchers allowed just four hits in two games in posting a pair of shutouts in a doubleheader sweep of Castleton State, 8-0 and 5-0.  RPI, which saw freshman Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY/Syracuse-Minoa) throw a one-hitter and senior Amy Huling (Vienna, VA/Holton-Arms) toss a three-hitter, is now 15-1 on the season.  The Spartans, meanwhile, are now 2-2.

In the first game, Street struck out 11 and walked none and the Red Hawks scored three runs in the fifth and the sixth innings for the win.  Rensselaer's third, fourth and fifth hitters of Huling, Julianne Bass (Costa Mesa, CA/Newport Harbor) and Katherine Valenta (LaGrange, IL/Lyons Township) combined for six hits, three runs and four runs batted in to provide the offense.

In the nightcap, Huling struck out ten with just two walks for the win in the circle.  Freshman Sara Finkbeiner (Napanoch,NY/Ellenville) paced RPI from the plate with two hits, including a home run, a run scored and two runs batted in.
