Softball Falls to Fourth-Ranked Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The fourth-ranked Bombers extended their winning streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of Rensselaer, winning 7-0 in both games to improve to 18-2 on the season. The Red Hawks fall to 15-3 overall with the losses.

In the first game, the Bombers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on sophomore Hannah Shalett’s (Shepaug Valley/Bridgewater, Conn.) double to right field.  Ithaca then tallied five runs in the fourth inning and add another in the sixth for the 7-0 margin.

Sophomore Nicole Cade (Beaverton/Portland, Ore.) improved to 9-1 with a complete game two-hitter. She struck out seven, walked one,and retired the final 11 batters of the game in order.

Freshman Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) suffered the loss for the Red Hawks, allowing six runs, all earned, and five hits in three innings. Senior Stephanie Vanek (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) came on in relief, allowing one run and four hits with two strikeouts in three innings.

In the second game, both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Bombers rallied for seven runs. 

Sophomore Carly Myers (Claremont Secondary/Vancouver/British Columbia) earned the win, to improve to 8-1.  She allowed three hits and struck out seven in the complete game shutout, her third of the season.

Senior Amy Huling (Vienna, VA/Holton-Arms School) shouldered the loss, allowing seven runs and eight hits, while walking three in five innings.  Vanek again came on in relief and allowed one hit in an inning of work.

The Bombers visit Cazenovia for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday (3pm). The Red Hawks are also back in action on Wednesday for a twinbill at Mount Saint Mary’s (3pm
