Senior Phillips tallies two goals in the Red Hawks loss

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Kate Phillips (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) tallied two goals, including a free position marker, but it wasn’t enough as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) fell to Rochester, 10-4, in Liberty League women’s lacrosse action at Harkness Field. With the victory, the Yellowjackets improve to 6-7 overall with a 4-4 league mark. The Red Hawks, who honored four seniors in a pre-game ceremony, finish their season at 4-10 overall and 2-6 in the Liberty League.

Rensselaer got on the board early in the first half when sophomore Natalie White (Guilford, CT/Guilford) and Phillips put the Red Hawks up 2-0 with goals less than 20 seconds apart. Rochester quickly responded, tallying the game’s next four goals to take a 4-2 lead at the 6:19 mark. Freshman Lindsay Dakin (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) led the way, scoring two of her three goals in the first half. Phillips added a goal with 38 seconds remaining to pull RPI within one at halftime (4-3).

White tied the game 4-4 just three minutes into the half, but the Yellowjackets exploded less than a minute later with its first of six straight markers. Freshman Abby Woodward (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) scored three goals and added an assist in the charge, which put Rochester ahead 10-4 with six minutes remaining.

Among the others who registered multiple points for Rochester were junior Christina Montano (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), who had two goals, and classmate Alanna Tievsky (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day), who added a goal and an assist. Freshman Leslie Dube (Skaneateles, NY/Marcellus) made 10 saves for the victory.

For Rensselaer, Phillips and White tallied two goals and senior Jen Wahl (Centerreach, NY/Centerreach) added an assist. Freshman Gianna Casale (Waterford, NY/Academy of Holy Names) stopped eight shots in the loss.

In addition to Phillips and Wahl, the two other seniors recognized were Michelle Michalenko (Dewitt, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and Rebecca Primm (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip).
